Rapping about political Lif

With his eclectic beats and avant-nerd lyricism, Boston fringe-rap veteran Mr. Lif has never chased trends. With his sixth solo release, “I Heard It Today,” he’s applying that way-outside-the-box strategy to marketing music.

Last week Lif dropped the “Today” title track through iTunes and other digital stores. He plans to release one or two new cuts every three weeks until Election Day (Nov. 4).
