CHICAGO - Barack Obama says the U.S.-Iraq security agreement approved by Iraq’s parliament puts the U.S. on a "glide path" toward reducing forces there.
As he named Robert Gates to continue on as defense chief, with a new mission to reduce U.S. involvement in Iraq, the president-elect said he’ll listen to Gates, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the commanders on the ground in determining how to proceed with a troop withdrawal.

what? didn't he say that the day he would be elected, the troops would start coming home...maybe i heard it wrong...silly me.
yes mim, you did hear it wrong, he never said that.
16 months,16 weeks,16 days...It doesn't matter. There will be civil war and the country will ultimately partition into three or more states. The sooner we can get our troops out of there, the better.
Mimsy you were correct, but he also said he was going to change Washington...he hasn\'t brought in one new person...Clinton has beens...Michelle better watch the interns
You can't change Washington by bringing in new inexperienced people. What you get is the mess created on the first 2-3 years of the Clinton Administration. You bring change by thinking and executing. If you notice there's very little criticism from the Republicans on his appointments. Why? because his picks are thoughtful, centrist and pragmatic. This is what's needed after 8 years of greed, division, and scorched earth policy.
Same conclusion from a different viewpoint: Except for his pick of Attorney General the above is generally true. And was also true of many Bush appointments - unfortunately Gates came rather late to the current administration. Obama has quickly learned that standing outside the tent complaining is a lot easier than sitting inside the tent giving orders.
