Indicted City Councilor Chuck Turner presided over the opening of the first council meeting of the new year this morning with a veritable sermon, saying he felt compelled to remind people that there are “two types of intelligence:” “rational and spiritual.”

The 68-year-old pol, who as the oldest member was given the gavel during the election of the new council president, spoke for roughly two minutes before yielding the pulpit to religious leaders. He said he had invited them to “focus on our spiritual intelligence and help that lead political intelligence.”
