Mass. lawmakers approve Springfield finance bill

BOSTON — State lawmakers have given initial approval of a relief bill for Springfield that is aimed at ultimately ending state oversight of its finances.

The Republican newspaper of Springfield reports the final version of the bill approved Monday night also includes a compromise that could overhaul the process of awarding city towing contracts that was sought by Rep. Benjamin Swan.
