Gov. Patrick taps Paul Kirk to replace Ted Kennedy

Gov. Deval Patrick today appointed longtime Kennedy aide Paul G. Kirk Jr. interim senator during a State House news conference, saying Massachusetts can’t be “one voice short” in the U.S. Senate.

“I accept with sincere humility,” said Kirk following the governor’s appointment.
